Volunteer Opportunity - Board of Directors

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba is a non-profit, community-based agency that has as its mandate to actively seek to reduce the number of women and girls involved in the criminal justice system by providing a variety of programs, services, and advocacy support to women and girls who are in conflict  with the law or have been in conflict with the law.

The Board of Directors of EFSM invites submission of applications to fill three vacancies on the Board; each position is for a two (2) year term, open for re-appointment. Potential Board members must be at least 18 years of age.

EFSM is looking for individuals who are committed to helping all Manitoba’s women, female youth, and female seniors and those with special needs through sound leadership and fulfilling our vision – ‘to assist women and girls who are involved in the criminal justice system’. As a candidate, you are a proactive decision maker, have sound judgment and a willingness to contribute to your community. Individuals with skills in the following areas are being sought;
  • Human Resources
  • Legal
  • Fund Raising
  • Communications
  • Governance
  • Information Technology
In order to reflect the diverse nature of our community the board encourages application from all residents. As a member of the Board team, your role will be to assist in leading the organization in fulfilling its mission. There is a time commitment expectation of between 4 - 6 hours per month to prepare for and attend meetings, participate on sub committee's, and engage in other Board business. Traditionally, our Board meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month, from 5:30 -7:00 p.m.

Our Board utilizes a governance model of oversight. As a Board Member, you will be actively involved in directing the organization's mission and overall strategy. You will contribute to and foster relationships to sustain the organizations financial health. You will exercise sound judgment and advocate effectively for the organization and build support within the community.
